Barton women’s basketball falls in regular season finale, 69-60 to Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (8-18, 8-11) fell to Chowan (16-10, 12-8), 69-60, in the Conference Carolinas regular season finale Wednesday evening at the Hawks Athletic Center.

The Hawks' Destiny Robinson (Hampton, Va.) led all scorers with 30 points to go along with 10 rebounds while hitting 12-of-13 from the charity stripe as Chowan swept the season series from Barton.

Barton freshman forward Nyah Wilkins (Garner, N.C.) finished with a team-high 19 points while junior guard Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 15 points but the Bulldogs suffered their third straight setback.

Barton held a 35-33 advantage at halftime and the game was close throughout with nine ties and nine lead changes.  However, Chowan took the lead for good when Meara Carter (Dorchester, Mass.) hit a lay-up for a 56-55 advantage with just over five minutes left in the contest.

Aniah Patterson (Dovel, Del.) added 16 points for the Hawks, who connected on 22-of-30 free throw attempts in the win.

Barton will hit the road for the opening round of the 2023 Conference Carolinas Championship and will face King on Sunday beginning at 5:00 p.m., back on the campus of Chowan University.  The Bulldogs are the eighth seed in the tournament while the Tornado (8-20, 8-12) are seeded ninth.  Chowan is the fifth seed and will face the winner of that contest on Monday at 5:00 p.m., in the second round.
