MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams put on a dominant performance in a dual meet sweep of Chowan Saturday afternoon at the Bynum Brown Aquatic Center.
The men's squad won over the Hawks by a score of 746-344 while the women's squad prevailed, 718-205.
On the women's side, Barton junior
Jacqueline Fischetti (Raleigh, N.C.) placed first in the 400-meter freestyle (4:56.32) and the 200-meter freestyle (2:21.48) races and was part of the first-place 200-meter freestyle relay (1:56.81) for the Bulldogs. Joining Fischetti on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay for the Bulldogs was sophomore
Cali Younker (Blaine, Tenn.), who won the women's 100-meter freestyle (1:05.59) and women's 100-meter backstroke (1:12.20) events.
Meanwhile, Barton senior
Alexis Lakey (Silver Spring, Md.) took first in the women's 100-meter butterfly (1:08.16) and the women's 50-meter butterfly (30:58) races. Lakey was also part of the Bulldogs' women's 200-meter medley relay that prevailed first with a time of 2:07.38.
The Bulldogs – sophomore
Ethan Koekemoer (Durban, SOUTH AFRICA), senior
Ethan Maddrey (Sims, N.C.) and sophomore
Natan Alexandre (São Paulo, BRAZIL) – all won two races for the Bulldogs in the men's competition.
Koekemoer won the 50-meter (27:70) and 100-meter backstrokes (59:44), Maddrey touched the line first in the 200-meter freestyle (1:58.10) and 50-meter butterfly (26.91) races and Alexandre placed first in the 50-meter (30:21) and 100-meter breaststroke (1:06.47) events.
Koekemoer and Alexandre were part of the Barton's first-place men's 200-meter medley relay (1:48.19) while Maddrey was the anchor leg in the Bulldogs' men's 200-meter freestyle relay which won over Chowan with a time of 1:39.29. In all, Barton won 24 of the possible 26 events.
Barton hits the pool again on Saturday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m., to take on Catawba in a dual meet at the Harrison Family YMCA in Rocky Mount, N.C., while Chowan competes in the UNCP Tri-Meet on Saturday, October 21, at 1:00 p.m., in Pembroke, N.C.
