ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams concluded the 2022-23 regular season portion of their schedule with a home dual meet against nationally-ranked Wingate.
On the men's side, Wingate won by a score of 169-77 while the Wingate women prevailed over Barton, 162-89. The Wingate men's and women's swimming teams are both ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division II.
Barton junior
Emme Ham (Plantation, Fla.) had a pair of second-place finishes to lead the women's squad on the afternoon: the 200-yard backstroke (2:31.10) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.79).
Meanwhile, junior
Riley Byers (Cumming, Ga.) took second overall in the women's 100-yard freestyle (55.06) and third in the women's 50-yard freestyle (24.84) for the Bulldogs. Barton sophomore
Cristal Perdomo (Fredericksburg, Va.) also had a runner-up finish – women's 100-yard butterfly (1:02.02) – and a third-place finish: women's 200-yard butterfly (2:18.96).
In the men's competition, Barton sophomore
David Szlobodnyik (Dunaujvaros, HUNGARY) also finished second in a pair of races: the 50-yard freestyle (21.82) and 100-yard butterfly (50.96) races.
The Barton swimming teams will next compete at the 2023 Conference Carolinas Championships in Kingsport, Tenn., at the Kingsport Aquatic Center from Wednesday, February 15, through Saturday, February 18.
