MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (3-7, 0-1) opened Conference Carolinas play on Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 setback to Mount Olive (5-2, 1-0) at the John Neal Walker Center.
Despite the setback, the Bulldogs did pick up victories at second and sixth singles from freshmen
Maren Kronsbein (Ellerau, GERMANY) and
Silvia Fernandez-Trabadelo (Barcelona, SPAIN), respectively.
Maren defeated Mount Olive's Liza Voloshyna (Kherson, UKRAINE) by scores of 6-4, 0-6 and 7-5 while Fernandez-Trabadelo upended the Trojans' Ece Yuksel (Zonguldak, TURKEY), 7-6 and 6-2.
Barton looks to bounce back against Campbell on Tuesday in Buies Creek beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Mount Olive hosts Emmanuel (Ga.) in a league match next Friday at 2:00 p.m.
