MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (8-5, 1-0), ranked No. 16 in NCAA Division II, opened Conference Carolinas play with a 6-1 victory over Mount Olive (4-3, 0-1) Saturday afternoon at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs, led by senior
Diego Agudelo (Bogata, COLOMBIA), freshmen
Johan Holgersson (Bromma, SWEDEN) and
Hannes Tylehed (Stockholm, SWEDEN) and junior
Philip Nordberg (Mariefred, SWEDEN), increased their winning streak to six matches. All four players picked up victories at singles and doubles play.
Barton claimed a pair of doubles wins including at No. 2 thanks to Nordberg and Agudelo's win over Mount Olive's Victor Nunez (Guayaquil, ECUADOR) and Gregory Normand (Lasne-Chapelle-Saint-Lambert, BELGIUM), 6-2.
Nordberg, the reigning league player of the week, downed the Trojans' Aditya Balda (Karnal, INDIA) by scores of 6-1 and 6-1. Nordberg has won four straight singles matches and five consecutive contests in doubles action.
Barton hosts Belmont Abbey on Friday at 3:00 p.m., in a league contest while Mount Olive hosts Emmanuel (Ga.) on Friday, March 25, at 2:00 p.m., as well.
