DUE WEST, S.C. – The Barton softball team (14-2, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play with a 6-5 victory over Erskine (4-13, 0-1) Friday at the Flying Fleet complex. Originally a doubleheader to start, the nightcap was called off due to rain.
Barton sophomore outfielder
Kandyce Condrey (High Point, N.C.), who finished with four runs batted in, came through with the game-winning, two-run single in the top of the seventh inning with two outs.
Condrey also had a two-run double in the first frame and senior shortstop
Mikayla Rose (Beaufort, N.C.) added an RBI double for the visitors.
For Erskine, Hailey Patterson (Charleston, S.C.) and Maddie Ingram (Summerville, S.C.) hit home runs despite the setback.
Barton freshman
Gracelyn Massey (Princeton, N.C.) improved to 2-0 on the year after pitching two scoreless innings while Erskine's Kaley Ingle (Stoneville, N.C.) fell to 2-6 on the year despite 13 strikeouts.
Barton hits the road to take on Emmanuel (Ga.) in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., in Franklin Springs, Ga., while Erskine hosts Chowan Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in a league doubleheader.
