ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Barton men's swimming team downed Catawba by a 144-108 score in the team's 2022-23 home opener Saturday afternoon at the Harrison Family YMCA.
On the women's side, the Indians prevailed by a 150-110 score and Catawba won the combination score, 258-254.
The Bulldogs' men's squad was led by freshmen
Natan Alexandre (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) and sophomore
Owen Rasinske (Hillsborough, N.C.). Alexandre placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.97) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.37) while Rasinske won the 50-yard freestyle (21.91) and 100-yard freestyle (48.34).
Alexandre and Rasinske were also part of the men's 200-yard medley relay which placed first with a time of 1:51.63 while Rasinske led off Barton's first-place men's 400-yard freestyle squad (3:14.65).
The Barton women's team was paced by junior
Alexis Lakey (Silver Spring, Md.) and senior
Moira Euker (Fredericksburg, Va.). Lakey won the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.81) and 100-yard butterfly (1:01.50) events while Euker took home individual honors in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.69) and 200-yard backstroke (2:15.56).
The Barton men's and women's swimming teams next compete against William Peace and Pfeiffer at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, N.C., on Sunday, October 23, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
