MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's track and field teams put together a strong performance at the 2021 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championships which wrapped up Saturday at Ray McDonald, Sr., Sports Complex on the campus of the University of Mount Olive.
Both squads finished in seventh place with the men and women finishing with 48 and 52 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Mount Olive swept both titles. The Trojans' women totaled 158 points while the men's squad finished with 268 points.
Barton was led by junior
Takeitha Glaspie (Goldsboro, N.C.), who won the women's 100-meter dash (12.20) and finished second in the women's 200-meter dash in 24.80 seconds. Meanwhile, junior
Telina Bunch (Hampton, Va.) ran the women's 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.95 seconds, good for second place for the Bulldogs.
Barton junior
Ashley Teilborg (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) also finished second in the women's javelin (113'5") while freshman
Bianca Kave (Hamden, Conn.) took second place in the women's long jump (17'5").
On the men's side, Barton junior
Tyler Burns (Wilson, N.C.) took third in the 200-meter dash (22.14) and was part of the 400-meter relay team which earned all-league honors as well thanks to a third-place finish and a time of 43.13 seconds. The remaining trio of the relay included freshmen
Chase Eaton (Wilson, N.C.) and
Ronnie Robinson (Columbia, S.C.) and junior
Jimere Summers (Kinston, N.C.).
In addition, senior
Chianti Ghee (Fayetteville, N.C.) took third place in the men's hammer throw (169'0") while the Bulldogs took second and third place in the men's pole vault courtesy of freshman
Jacob Boucher (Swansboro, N.C.) and junior
Quante Downey (Nashville, N.C.), respectively, with a mark of 13'5".
The Barton men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are next scheduled to compete in the Last Chance Meet on Sunday, May 16, back on Mount Olive's campus.
