Barton softball run-rules Bluefield State in doubleheader sweep, 10-2 and 8-0

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (15-15) moved back to .500 on the year with two run-rule victories in a doubleheader sweep of Bluefield State (0-12), 10-2 and 8-0, Thursday afternoon at Jeffries Field.

Game One – Barton 10, Bluefield State 2 (five innings)
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 advantage after two innings of play and never looked back in the win.

Barton then put the contest away with a five-run fourth inning.  Both senior first baseman Jordan Blake (Jackson Springs, N.C.) and freshman outfielder Elyse Brinn (Belhaven, N.C.) drove in a pair of runs to lead the Bulldogs to the win.  Brinn had a two-run triple for the Bulldogs.

Barton sophomore Shelby Talley (Oxford, N.C.) (1-1) earned her first win of the season while Ashlee Brassart (Locust, Va.) took the loss.   For Bluefield State, Kennedy James (Beckley, W.Va.) drove in a run in the setback.

Game Two – Barton 8, Bluefield State 0 (five innings)
Barton senior Jordan Blake (Jackson Springs, N.C.) (1-0) threw a two-hit shutout while sophomore first baseman Sloane Correa (Greenville, N.C.) drove in four runs as the Bulldogs completed the sweep.

Bluefield State's Madison Thompson (Christiansburg, Va.) suffered the loss on the mound as the visitors continue to search for their first victory of the year.

Barton steps back into Conference Carolinas play to take on Mount Olive on Wednesday, April 7, in a home doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m., while Bluefield State hosts Lees-McRae on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
