SUMTER, S.C. - The Barton men's tennis team (4-2) was on the short end of a 5-2 loss to Augusta (3-3) Sunday afternoon in a regional contest at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
Despite the loss, Barton received a victory at third singles from senior
Alessandro Gerbino (Borlange, SWEDEN) while the tandem of sophomore
Brad Beck (Wake Forest, N.C.) and senior
Hugh Ryder (Dartmouth, ENGLAND) prevailed at third doubles.
Gerbino downed Augusta's Quentin Cano Perez (Saint Gregoire, FRANCE) by a score of 6-4 and 7-6 to improve to 5-0 on the season in singles play while Beck and Ryder are also undefeated as a duo at doubles (3-0).
Barton next hosts Hastings (Neb.) on Wednesday, March 17, beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Augusta faces North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference match on Tuesday in Dahlonega, Ga., starting at 1:00 p.m.
