WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's track and field teams got their outdoor seasons off to a strong start with three first-place finishes at the 2021 Wendy's Seahawk Navy Invitational Friday at the Harold Greene Complex.
Barton junior
Ashley Teilborg (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) won the women's javelin throw (121'0") while junior
Quante Downey (Nashville, N.C.) placed first in the men's pole vault (12'0) and senior
Chianti Ghee (Fayetteville, N.C.) was the top competitor in the men's hammer throw (151'4").
Ghee was also runner-up in the men's discus throw (129'9") while junior
Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.) and freshman
Tyler Burns (Wilson, N.C.) both placed third in the men's 1,500-meter run (4:18.08) and the men's 100-meter dash (10.97), respectively.
Another top-three finish on the women's side included junior
Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.). Russell took third overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.42.
Barton next competes in University of Mount Olive's Adidas Trojan Challenge on Friday, March 26, and Saturday, March 27, in Mount Olive, N.C.
