VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Barton men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed Monday at the 2021 Conference Carolinas Championships which took place at the brand new Virginia Beach Sports Complex.
The Bulldogs finished tied for ninth in the men's standings while the women's squad took 11th overall. Mount Olive captured its fifth consecutive league men's championship while UNC Pembroke won the women's title in its first year of competition within the conference.

Quante Downey (Nashville, N.C.) placed third overall to earn all-conference honors in the men's pole vault while the men's distance medley relay – consisting of senior
Greg Gibbs (Newark, N.J.), junior
Evan Lee (Wilson, N.C.) and freshmen
Damien Gonzalez (Mooresville, N.C.) and
Chase Eaton (Wilson, N.C.) – garnered all-league accolades with a third-place finish as well. The DMR clocked in at 10:47.82.
In addition, the Bulldogs' men's team had a pair of top-four finishes: senior
Chianti Ghee (Fayetteville, N.C.) in the weight throw (51'3") and freshman
Tyler Burns (Wilson, N.C.) in the 200-meter dash (22.48).
On the women's side, Barton's top finish came from junior
Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.). Russell finished fifth overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.66.
The outdoor season for Barton's track and field teams begin on Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13, at the Wendy's Seahawk Invitational on the campus of UNC Wilmington in Wilmington, N.C.
