FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (1-0) opened the 2021 campaign with a 4-3 victory over Francis Marion (1-3) Sunday afternoon at Kassab Courts.
A trio of players – seniors
Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN) and
Ada Vargas (Lima, PERU) and sophomore
Luciana Prudencio (La Paz, BOLIVIA) – all won at singles and doubles for the Bulldogs in the win.

Eimear Maher (Newbridge, IRELAND) got by Francis Marion's Hermon Mikael (Karlskrona, SWEDEN) and Viktoria Leth (Gothenburg, SWEDEN) in a 7-6 (8-6) slugfest at No. 1 doubles while Stevenson bested Mikael as well in first singles, 6-2 and 6-4.
Barton next hosts Salem on Saturday, February 27, at Noon while Francis Marion takes on Augusta in a Peach Belt Conference contest Wednesday at Noon in Augusta, Ga.
