VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Barton men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the Winter 2021 campaign at Norfolk State University's Kenneth Giles Invitational which wrapped up Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Barton registered a pair of first-place finishes on the men's side to lead the way: senior
Chianti Ghee (Fayetteville, N.C.) in the weight throw (51'8") and junior
Quante Downey (Nashville, N.C.) in the pole vault (12'6").
The Bulldogs also received third-place and fifth-place in the men's one mile run courtesy of senior
Evan Lee (Wilson, N.C.) and freshman
Damien Gonzalez (Mooresville, N.C.) with times of 4:38.28 and 4:40.43, respectively. Ghee took fourth place in the men's shot put (41'8") as well.
On the women's side, junior
Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.) took sixth overall in the one-mile run with a time of 5:44.35 and eighth in the 800-meter run (2:29.65) for the Bulldogs. In addition, Barton freshman
Bianca Kave (Hamden, Conn.) took ninth in the long jump (15'8").
Barton next competes in the 2021 Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Championships which also take place at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex in Virginia Beach, Va., on Monday, February 22.
