No. 21 Barton women’s basketball makes quick work of Fayetteville State, 80-50

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (4-0), ranked No. 21 in NCAA Division II, remained unbeaten on the season with an 80-50 win over Fayetteville State (2-2) Tuesday evening at Felton J. Capel Arena.

Barton senior forward Jami Tham (Arlington, N.C.) came up big with a double-double – a game-high 25 points and 17 rebounds – while senior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 19 points as the Bulldogs raced to a 49-24 halftime lead and never looked back in cruising to the victory.

Peterkin and Tham, this week's league's player and defensive player of the week, respectively, combined to shoot 17-of-29 (58.6 percent) from the floor as well.  Peterkin also blocked four shots on the evening and moved into fifth place on the school's all-time scoring list for the NCAA D-II era with 1,376 points.

Fayetteville State's Aniylah Bryant (Havelock, N.C.) finished with a team-high 19 points but was the lone player to score in double figures for the Broncos, who shot just 30 percent (18-of-61) from the floor and were done in by 23 turnovers.

Barton senior guard Akira Wiggins (Knightdale, N.C.) added 13 points and six assists to go along with a pair of treys from the point while Tham notched her second straight double-double.

Barton opens Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday, November 30, against Francis Marion at Wilson Gymnasium beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Meanwhile, Fayetteville State takes on Elizabeth City State on Saturday, November 27, at 6:00 p.m., in Rocky Mount, N.C.
