GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams competed Saturday afternoon at the East Carolina University Tri-Meet along with Chowan at the Minges Natatorium.
In the head-to-head competition against Chowan, both the Bulldogs' men (144-101) and women (192-64) won over Chowan while the women's squad fell to East Carolina, 208-82.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs were led by freshmen
David Szlobodnyik (Dunaujvaros, HUNGARY) and
Georgi Tsurev (Blagoevgrad, BULGARIA) and sophomore
Josiah Beasley (Erwin, N.C.).
All three swimmers won a pair of events: Szlobodnyik in the 50-yard freestyle (22.16) and 100-yard butterfly (52.27), Tsurev in the 100-yard backstroke (53.35) and 200-yard backstroke (1:56.55) and Beasley in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.96) and 100-yard freestyle (48.53).
All three – along with freshman
Trevor Cram (Stephens City, Va.) – finished first in the men's 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:36.82 for the Bulldogs.
In the women's competition, Barton senior
Kleanza Cathers (Kitimat, British Columbia, CANADA) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.31) and 100-yard freestyle (54.54) events and was part of a pair of second-place relays: 400-yard medley (4:06.14) and 400-yard freestyle (1:40.38).
Senior
Adalaya Nemitz (Waxhaw, N.C.) was on both second-place relays for the women's team as well for the Bulldogs.
The Barton swimming teams next host Chowan in a dual meet in the home opener next Saturday, October 16, at the Harrison Family YMCA in Rocky Mount, N.C., beginning at 1:00 p.m.
