SALISBURY, N.C. – The Barton swimming teams split a road dual meet with Catawba Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Poll. The women's team won by a score of 144-90 while the men's team fell to the Indians, 141-103.
Barton seniors
Adalaya Nemitz (Waxhaw, N.C.) and
Kleanza Cathers (Kitimat, British Columbia, CANADA) and sophomore
Megan Schueller (La Plata, Md.) all won an individual event and were part of the first-place women's 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.15.
Cathers won the women's 100-yard freestyle (54.29), Nemitz touched the finish line first in the women's 100-yard butterfly (1:00.80) and Schueller finished first in the women's 50-yard freestyle. In addition, junior
Moira Euker (Fredericksburg, Va.) captured the women's 100-yard (1:00.13) and 200-yard (2:10.44) backstrokes for Barton
On the men's side, freshman
Georgi Tsurev (Blagoevgrad, BULGARIA) won the 100-yard (52.83) and 200-yard (1:56.75) backstroke events and led off the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:27.18) for the Bulldogs.
Barton sophomore
Roman Martinez (Willow Spring, N.C.) and freshman
David Szlobodnyik (Dunaujvaros, HUNGARY) placed first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.49) and 100-yard butterfly (52.12) events, respectively, and were part of the winning relay for the Bulldogs as well.
The Barton men's and women's swimming teams will next compete against William Peace and UNC Pembroke on Saturday, November 6, at the Harrison Family YMCA in Rocky Mount, N.C., beginning at 1:00 p.m.
