ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams swept Chowan in a dual meet in the 2021-22 home opener Saturday afternoon at the Harrison Family YMCA.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs prevailed by a 185-72 score while the men's team upended the Hawks, 171-75.
The Bulldogs' women's team was led by senior
Kleanza Cathers (Kitimat, British Columbia, CANADA) and junior
Moira Euker (Fredericksburg, Va.).
Cathers took first place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.39) and 50-yard freestyle (25.10) while Euker touched the line first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.54) and 200-yard backstroke (2:10.82).
The duo was also part of the first-place relays for the Bulldogs: the women's 200-yard medley (1:53.01) and 400-yard freestyle (3:40.95).
In addition, senior
Adalaya Nemitz (Waxhaw, N.C.) was also part of the women's 200-yard medley relay for the Bulldogs and won the women's 200-yard individual medley (2:15.12) and women's 100-yard freestyle (55.93).
In the men's competition, freshmen
Trevor Cram (Stephens City, Va.),
David Szlobodnyik (Dunaujvaros, HUNGARY) and
Georgi Tsurev (Balgoevgrad, BULGARIA). All three swimmers won two events: Cram in the 100-yard (1:02.72) and 200-yard (2:19.03) breaststroke, Szlobodnyik in the 100-yard (52.75) and 200-yard (1:59.89) butterfly and Tsurev in the 100-yard (52.60) and 200-yard (1:57.13) backstrokes.
Szlobodnyik and Tsurev were also part of the Bulldogs' first-place relays: men's 200-yard medley (1:39.73) and men's 400-yard freestyle (3:14.56).
The Barton swimming teams travel to Salisbury, N.C., to take on Catawba in a dual meet next Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
