ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams easily defeated Chowan in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at the Harrison Family YMCA. The women's squad won by a score of 183-62 while the men's team upended the Hawks, 205-49.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs swept all 14 events including three victories from junior
Jonathan York (Midlothian, Va.) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:29.77), 200-yard butterfly (2:02.31) and 400-yard individual medley (4:27.85).
Meanwhile, junior All-American
Bartlomiej Swiderski (Warsaw, POLAND) placed first in the 100-yard (51.23) and 200-yard backstrokes (1:53.61) and freshman
Josiah Beasley (Erwin, N.C.) touched the line first in the 100-yard (48.11) and 200-yard freestyle (2:02.31) events for the Bulldogs.
Finally, Barton senior
Jonathan Moss (Mechanicsville, Va.) won the 100-yard (1:01.96) and 200-yard breaststrokes (2:16.62) while Swiderski and Beasley were part of the first-place 200-yard medley (1:36.89) and 400-yard freestyle (3:15.92) relays.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs captured 13 of the 14 overall events including three swimmers – senior
Kleanza Cathers (Kitimat, British Columbia, CANADA), sophomore
Carrington Clack (Garner, N.C.) and freshman
Emme Ham (Plantation, Fla.) – who all won multiple races.
Cathers took first in the 1,000-yard (11:23.33) and 50-yard (25.52) freestyles, Clack captured the 100-yard (54.99) and 200-yard freestyle (2:00.88) races and Ham took home the 100-yard (1:11.28) and 200-yard (2:35.00) breaststrokes in addition to the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:59.94. Clack was also part of the two first-place relays for the Bulldogs: the 200-yard medley (1:54.02) and the 400-yard freestyle (3:42.49).
The Barton men's and women's swimming teams next travel to Wingate, N.C., to take on NCAA Division II power Wingate in a dual meet on Saturday, January 23, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
