Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (23-5) advanced to the semifinals of the 2020 Conference Carolinas Championship with an 84-71 victory over North Greenville (13-15) in the quarterfinal round Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton will next face third-seeded Emmanuel (Ga.) (20-7) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C., on the campus of Wofford College. The Lions defeated sixth-seeded King (16-13) by a 72-63 score tonight at home.
Barton – the second seed in this year's league tournament – was led by junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) and sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.). Peterkin notched her 23rd double-double on the year with 25 points and 14 rebounds while Tham-Morrobel added a double-double on her own – 23 points and 11 rebounds – as the Bulldogs defeated the Crusaders for the third time this year.
Seventh-seeded North Greenville lost despite a game-high 28-point effort from Karen Donehew (Knoxville, Tenn.). The Bulldogs opened a 40-30 halftime lead and remained ahead the rest of the way. Barton senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) added 15 points and five treys – increasing her league-leading total to 102 – as the Bulldogs won their 10th straight game.
Barton also held a 46-32 advantage on the boards and increased its record to 16-1 in its last 17 games. Barton also advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the fourth straight season.
