Barton women's basketball overwhelms rival Mount Olive, 83-56, on the road

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (16-5, 13-3) made a statement with a convincing 83-56 victory over Mount Olive (15-6, 12-5) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at Kornegay Arena.

Barton junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished with 20 points and 15 rebounds – her 17th double-double on the season – while senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) scored 15 points on five treys as the Bulldogs moved into sole possession of second place in the league regular season standings.

Mount Olive's Jada Bacchus (Wilmington, N.C.) scored a team-high 14 points but the Trojans shot just 33 percent (21-of-63) including one-of-nine from behind the three-point line for the night.  Barton also forced Mount Olive into 22 turnovers.

Five players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs, who held a 35-27 advantage at halftime before breaking the contest open in the third period.  Barton sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) added 14 points and nine rebounds as the visitors won their third straight game.

Barton returns to Wilson Gymnasium to face Lees-McRae in a Conference Carolinas game on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., while Mount Olive hosts King (Tenn.) Saturday in a league contest beginning at 2:00 p.m., as well.
