Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (22-5, 19-3) ended the regular season with an 80-59 victory over Converse (4-27, 3-19) Tuesday evening at Hannah Gymnasium in Conference Carolinas action.
Barton junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) led all scorers with 32 points including 22 before halftime as the Bulldogs ran their winning streak to nine games. Peterkin also blocked six shots and pulled down 12 rebounds for her 22nd double-double of the year as the Bulldogs rolled to a 50-27 advantage at intermission and never looked back.
Barton sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) tallied a double-double of her own – 17 points and 17 rebounds – and senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) hit four treys to increase her league-leading total to 97 on the year as the visitors held the Valkyries to just 33 percent shooting (23-of-69) in the win.
Converse was led by Ellen Nardella (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) with 11 points but was the lone player to score in double figures for the Valkyries. Barton also swept the season series from Converse.
Barton will be the second seed in the 2020 Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship and will take on seventh-seeded North Greenville (13-14, 10-12) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., in the quarterfinal round at Wilson Gymnasium.
