Box Score TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (19-5, 16-3) kept the pressure on with a 68-52 victory over North Greenville (12-12, 9-10) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Hayes Gymnasium.
Barton sophomore guard Akira Wiggins (Knightdale, N.C.) led all scorers with 18 points while junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 17 points and nine rebounds as the Bulldogs won their sixth straight game and improved to 12-1 in their last 13 contests.
North Greenville was led by Karen Donehew (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Savannah Hughes (Greenville, S.C.) with 12 points each but the Crusaders shot just 31 percent (19-of-61) for the contest and were forced into 21 turnovers.
Barton – who rallied from a 16-5 deficit early in the second quarter – took control with 28 second-quarter points to sweep the season series from North Greenville. Barton senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) finished with 12 points and hit four treys to increase her league-leading total to 80 in the win. The Bulldogs also remained in sole possession of second place in the Conference Carolinas Regular Season standings.
Barton returns home to take on rival Mount Olive on Wednesday night beginning at 5:30 p.m., in a league showdown while North Greenville faces Lees-McRae on the road Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., as well.
