Box Score MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (18-5, 15-3) stayed hot with another convincing Conference Carolinas victory, 88-58 over Chowan (4-18, 4-14) Tuesday evening at the Helms Center.
Barton junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) and sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) each scored 26 points as the Bulldogs won their fifth straight game and improved to 11-1 in their last 12 contests. Barton also remained in sole possession of second place in the league regular season standings.
Chowan was led by Mariah Coker (Portsmouth, Va.) with 13 points but was the lone player to score in double figures for the Hawks, who lost their fourth straight game. The Hawks were also limited to just 31 percent shooting (20-of-65) for the game and turned the ball over 23 times.
Barton held a 47-39 edge at halftime then broke the contest open in the third quarter highlighted by a 10-0 run midway through the frame. Peterkin also pulled down 11 boards for her 19th double-double on the year and blocked three shots, increasing her league-leading total to 77.
Barton remains on the road to take on North Greenville in Tigerville, S.C., on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Chowan plays at King on Saturday in Bristol, Tenn., at 2:00 p.m., as well.
