Box Score BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (9-4, 6-2) made it two victories in a row with a 95-76 triumph over Lees-McRae (4-11, 1-6) in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium.
Barton junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-11 shooting while senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) added 18 points in addition to four treys as the Bulldogs shot 58 percent (34-of-59) in the win. Peterkin now has 11 double-doubles on the season.
Lees-McRae's Destiny Johnson (Lincolnton, N.C.) scored a team-high 18 points but the Bobcats suffered their fourth straight loss. Barton jumped ahead by a 49-37 score at intermission and led by as many as 24 points – 77-53 with 54 seconds left in the third period – on its way to the easy win.
Barton sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) added a double-double – 14 points and 12 rebounds – as four Bulldogs scored in double figures. Sophomore guard Akira Wiggins (Knightdale, N.C.) dished out 13 assists for Barton, who forced Lees-McRae into 22 turnovers.
Barton returns home to take on North Greenville in a league game next Saturday, January 11, at Wilson Gymnasium at 2:00 p.m., while Lees-McRae faces Mount Olive on the road next Saturday at 2:00 p.m., as well.
