Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (10-4, 7-2) turned it on in the second half and rolled to a 90-54 victory over North Greenville (5-7, 4-5) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) scored 17 points and hit five treys while junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) added her 12th double-double – 17 points and 15 rebounds – as the Bulldogs scored 58 points after the break and won their third straight contest.
North Greenville's Journey Muhammed (Charlotte, N.C.) and Karen Donehew (Knoxville, Tenn.) both scored 14 points as the Crusaders held a 16-10 advantage at the end of the opening stanza before Barton took over. Barton's defense was key as the Bulldogs limited the Crusaders to just 29 percent (20-of-65) shooting and blocked 11 shots on the day.
Peterkin had five of those 11 blocks – increasing her school-record career total to 295 – while sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) added 16 points and 14 rebounds as Barton held a 61-37 edge on the boards as well.
Barton remains at home to take on Converse on Wednesday beginning at 5:30 p.m., in a Conference Carolinas game while North Greenville faces league-foe King in Bristol, Tenn., on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., as well.
