Barton men's and women's outdoor track and field competes at the Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – Against mostly NCAA Division I competition, the Barton College outdoor men's and women's track and field teams held their own at the Duke Invitational (Battle of the Blues) Saturday at Morris Williams Stadium.

The Bulldogs' women's 400-meter relay squad – consisting of freshmen Danyetta Ruffin (Newport News, Va.), Taylynn Blunt (Hampton, Va.) and Takeitha Glaspie (Goldsboro, N.C.) and sophomore Syaani Harris (Ashland, Va.) – placed 13th overall with a time of 47.96.

Glaspie also took 33rd in the women's 200-meter dash (25.22) while sophomore Jasmine Watson (Suffolk, Va.) was 31st in the women's 100-meter hurdles (15.40) for the Bulldogs.

On the men's side, Barton had a top-ten finish with junior Micah Clemons (Greenville, N.C.) taking ninth place in the hammer throw (180'3") in addition to a 21st-place showing in the shot put (45'10").

In addition, freshman Dalton Mutz (Concord, N.H.) took 55th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.78 seconds while freshman Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.) clocked a 4:11.57 in the 1,500-meter run, good for 63rd overall.

The Barton men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will next compete at the 2019 Conference Carolinas Championships which will take place over three days – Thursday, April 25, through Saturday, April 27 – in Central, S.C., on the campus of Southern Wesleyan University.
