Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (19-4, 12-4) celebrated Senior Day with a dominating, 103-74 win over Southern Wesleyan (8-16, 3-13) Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton senior forward Kianna Wynn (Knightdale, N.C.) led all scorers with 36 points on 16-of-20 shooting – two off her career-high – in addition to 11 rebounds as the Bulldogs won their fifth straight game and moved into a first-place tie in the league standings with Belmont Abbey. Wynn, the team's leading scorer (23.5), is third all-time on the Bulldogs' scoring list with 1,961 points.
Barton, who swept the season series from Southern Wesleyan, had its season-high in points and shot 54 percent from the field (42-of-79) in the victory. The Bulldogs built a 58-44 lead at halftime and never looked back. Sophomore center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) added a double-double – 16 points and 11 rebounds – in the win as well for the Bulldogs.
Southern Wesleyan was led by Jessica Sparks (Seneca, S.C.) with 22 points including six three-pointers but the Warriors turned the ball over 22 times in the setback.
Senior guard Dinah Neal (Browns Summit, N.C.) added 12 points for the Bulldogs, who held a 47-30 edge in rebounding and scored 66 points in the paint.
Barton remains at home to take on rival Mount Olive in a league contest Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., while Southern Wesleyan hosts North Greenville on Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
