Box Score BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (7-4, 3-2) fell to Belmont Abbey (10-1, 5-0) by an 80-66 score on Friday evening on the road in a Conference Carolinas game at the Wheeler Center.
Five players scored in double figures for the Crusaders – led by Hannah Roney (Jacksonville, Fla.) with 17 points – as Belmont Abbey remained at the top of the league standings and ran its winning streak to 10 games.
Barton sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) finished with a team-high 18 points and 12 rebounds while junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, VA.) added her ninth consecutive double-double – 14 points and 10 boards – despite the loss. After five league games at home, the Bulldogs were playing their first road conference contest on the year.
The Crusaders took control in the second period as the home team outscored the visitors by a 25-6 margin on their way to a 34-20 lead entering intermission. Belmont Abbey also shot 25-of-29 (86 percent) from the charity stripe including a 16-of-17 performance in the final stanza to hold off the Bulldogs.
Barton and Belmont Abbey will play each other again on Thursday, January 2, at 5:30 p.m., in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium in Wilson, N.C.
