Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (7-3, 4-1) won its second straight Conference Carolinas home game in impressive fashion, 79-56 over Chowan (1-8, 1-4) Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.
Four players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs including 16 points from sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) as Barton broke open a close contest with a dominant third quarter. Barton held a 38-32 advantage at halftime before opening the second half with eight straight points and never looked back.
Barton senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) and junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) both scored 15 points with Baer hitting five treys and Peterkin totaling six of the Bulldogs' 16 blocked shots in the victory. Barton also limited Chowan to just 28 percent (22-of-80) shooting for the contest and forcing the visitors into 20 turnovers as well.
Chowan – losers of five straight games – was led by Mariah Coker (Portsmouth, Va.) with 15 points but was the lone player to score in double figures for the Hawks. Barton sophomore guard Akira Wiggins (Knightdale, N.C.) added 13 points and dished out eight assists in the win as well.
Barton hits the road to take on Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas contest on Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m., in Belmont, N.C., while Chowan hosts Converse Thursday at Noon.
