HICKORY, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams combined for seven first-place finishes Saturday afternoon in a dual meet with Lenoir-Rhyne University at the Shuford Physical Education Center.
The Bears defeated the Bulldogs in the men's competition by a score of 153-108 while Lenoir-Rhyne prevailed over Barton, 154.5-105.5, in the women's head-to-head.
On the men's side, Barton was led by freshman Jonathan York (Midlothian, Va.) with victories in both the 500-yard (4:57.52) and 1,000-yard freestyle (10:08.62) events. Also in the men's races, freshman Colton Spence (New Hill, N.C.) won the 100-yard freestyle (49.63) while sophomore Jaksa Gabric (Zagreb, CROATIA) prevailed in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.00 for the Bulldogs.
In the women's competition, Barton sophomore Kaylee Davis (Benson, N.C.) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.33) and sophomore Kazia Patzer (Snellville, Ga.) was the top swimmer in the 200-yard butterfly (2:27.62). Finally, sophomore Nicola Macdonald (Durban, SOUTH AFRICA) finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.79.
The Barton men's and women's swimming teams return home to take on Saint Andrews and Chowan as part of Senior Day next Saturday, January 12, at 1:00 p.m., at the Harrison Family YMCA.
