Barton women's basketball takes home conference loss to Lees-McRae, 79-65

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton Women's Basketball Team (10-3, 3-3) went ice cold in the second quarter in suffering a 79-65 setback to Lees-McRae (6-6, 3-2) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.

The Bobcats, who limited the Bulldogs to just four points in the second stanza, were led by Brea Forbes (Freeport, BAHAMAS) with 19 points as Lees-McRae jumped out to a 41-18 advantage at halftime and never looked back.  The decisive second period saw the Bobcats score 23 points compared to the Bulldogs' four.

Lees-McRae, which held Barton to just 18 percent shooting (five-of-28) in the first half, led by as many as 27 points in the third quarter twice (49-22 and 61-34) and forced Barton into 20 turnovers.

Barton junior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) finished with a team-high 16 points including four treys while senior guard Dinah Neal (Browns Summit, N.C.) and senior forward Kianna Wynn (Knightdale, N.C.) added 12 points each in the losing effort.

In the next round of Conference Carolinas games on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., Barton travels to Central, S.C., to take on Southern Wesleyan while Lees-McRae hosts Belmont Abbey.
