Barton women's basketball rolls to an 89-46 victory over Augusta to open the 2018-19 campaign

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Barton women's basketball team (1-0) got its season off to a rousing start with an 89-46 victory over Augusta (0-1) Friday evening on the first day of the Peach Belt Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Barton senior forward and all-league honoree Kianna Wynn (Knightdale, N.C.) led all scorers with 26 points on 12-of-18 shooting and the Bulldogs broke open the contest by outscoring the Jaguars by a 25-5 margin in the third quarter to turn the contest into a rout. 

Barton shot 63 percent from the field – 35-of-56 – and hit 10 treys in the complete game victory.  The Bulldogs' freshman guard Akira Wiggins (Knightdale, N.C.) added 17 points off the bench in the victory.  Barton also held a decisive 48-24 edge on the boards while sophomore center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) had an outstanding all-around contest, totaling nine points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.

For Augusta, Olivia Swanston (Marietta, Ga.) had 14 points off the bench but the Jaguars turned the ball over 16 times and fell behind by a 14-2 score to start the contest as the Bulldogs never looked back.

On the second and final day of the challenge on Saturday, Barton will face UNC Pembroke at 2:00 p.m., while Augusta hosts Southern Wesleyan Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m.
