BC earns fifth straight win with 87-64 victory over Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. –  The Barton College women's basketball team completed a three-game road trip with an 87-64 win over host Lees-McRae College on Saturday afternoon for the team's fifth consecutive win.

Barton (15-9,12-6) controlled the paint throughout the contest, outscoring the Bobcats 60-36 down low and holding a 51-40 advantage in total rebounds. BC also shot nearly 50 percent (39-of-81) from the floor, while holding Lees-McRae (4-20, 4-14) to just 37.9 percent shooting in the game.

The two sides played to four total ties on the scoreboard during the games first four minutes of play, but back-to-back jump shots from junior Karimah Dean and sophomore Kianna Wynn gave Barton a four-point it would never relinquish.

BC ended the first quarter on a 13-0 run to lead by 15 points after the opening 10 minutes. A layup from sophomore JerBria Smith gave Barton a 50-24 advantage heading into the halftime break. The Lady Bulldogs 56.6 in the opening half, compared to a 29.6 shooting mark from LMC.

Barton's largest lead of the contest came with 9:55 left to play in the fourth quarter as junior Jaclyn Welch hit a 3-pointer to move the BC advantage to 74-40. Redshirt-sophomore Alonna Terrell scored the final four points for Barton to establish a new career-high and finish with eight points and seven rebounds in her first career start.

Wynn led BC with her 14th double-double of the year, recording 20 points on a 10-for-14 shooting performance to go along with 12 rebounds and four steals.

Dean followed with 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals of her own, while Smith matched a season-high with 12 points and five assists. Juniors Taura Jones and Tatyana Jackson rounded out the double-digit scorers for Barton with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Barton returns home on Wednesday, February 15 to host rival University of Mount Olive at 5:30 p.m. inside Wilson Gymnasium.
