DUE WEST, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team fell to Erskine College 87-71 on Monday night in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Quarterfinals, ending the Lady Bulldogs' season.
Barton (14-16, 12-10), the No 5 seed in the tournament, shot just 42.1 percent from the floor and held a 47-32 advantage in total rebounds but No. 4 Erskine (16-13, 14-8) shot 49.2 percent as a team and forced BC into 23 turnovers to advance in the postseason.
The Lady Bulldogs led by four points after the opening quarter of play and held a two-point lead at halftime. Barton trailed by one with just under two minutes to go until a three-point from sophomore Alex Kimble with 1:36 remaining gave the Royal Blue and White its halftime lead.
However, the Flying Fleet outscored BC 25-14 in the third quarter and ended the period on a 10-0 run to lead by nine points with 10 minutes remaining. Erskine extended its lead throughout the final quarter of play, leading to the 16-point victory.
Freshman Kianna Wynn led Barton with 19 points, shooting 7-for-13 from the floor and 5-for-7 from the free throw line, to go along with five rebounds.
Kimble and junior Caila Carter each totaled 13 points, while sophomore Tatyana Jackson totaled 10 points and four rebounds. Freshman Ciera Williams dished out a career-high seven assists to go along with four rebounds and four steals in 30 minutes of action.
