TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton College women's basketball team dropped its third straight contest on Friday night, falling to league foe North Greenville University 84-77 in Hayes Gymnasium.
North Greenville (3-8, 1-4) hit a season-high 52.4 percent of its three-point attempts, making 11-of-21 shots from beyond the arc. The Crusaders shot 54.2 percent from the floor as a team and held Barton (5-8, 3-3) to a 38.9 percent clip from the field.
Baton scored the game's first five points and led by as much as a 12-4 margin with 6:21 to play in the first quarter. Despite leading 18-15 after the opening period, BC trailed 47-31 at intermission thanks to a 32-point effort in the second quarter by North Greenville.
The Crusaders outscored BC 19-18 in the third period, leaving the Lady Bulldogs with a 17-point deficit to overcome with 10 minutes remaining. The Royal Blue and White was able to get within eight points following back-to-back free throws from freshman Kianna Wynn with 1:31 left but could not overcome the large margin.
Wynn led all scorers with 26 points and 10 rebounds for her third straight double-double and eighth of the season. Redshirt-sophomore Alex Kimble totaled 17 points, most of them on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range, with seven rebounds as sophomore Karimah Dean finished with 15 points and seven rebounds of her own.
Barton will conclude its current three-game road trip tomorrow when the Lady Bulldogs take on No. 10 Limestone College at 5:30 p.m. in Gaffney, S.C.
