WILSON, N.C.-Junior forward Shante Neal scored 13 points and pulled 13 rebounds Saturday night to lead the Barton College women's basketball team to a 79-62 Conference Carolinas conquest of visiting Erskine College.
The Lady Bulldogs rose to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in Conference Carolinas play while Erskine exited at 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the league. Barton visits Pfeiffer on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m.
Barton bolted to a quick 10-point lead at 17-7 just six minutes into the game with a 13-1 surge culminated by senior Jannetta Robinson's 3-pointer. Junior center Jolanda Mitchell and sophomore guard Nyeshia Willie had four points apiece in the run and Robinson cashed in five. Neal dominated down low with seven first-half boards as the Lady Bulldogs built a 40-29 lead at intermission.
The cushion stayed around the 10-point mark until seven minutes remained in the second half. That's when Barton raced from a 64-55 lead to a 75-55 margin with an 11-0 run triggered by six points from Neal, who registered her first career double-double. Eleven of her points came after intermission.
Willie and Robinson, who each canned two 3-pointers apiece, finished with 18 points each and Mitchell scored 10. Jackson tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
Barton dominated the rebounding 44-32 and shot 44.1 percent (30-of-68) from the floor. The Lady Bulldogs were also 13-of-16 (81.3 percent) from the foul line and 6-of-17 (35.3 percent) from downtown. The six treys were the second-most this season for Barton. Neal, Willie and Robinson also recorded four assists apiece.
Dixon and Porsha Morgan led the Flying Fleet with 14 points each and Elizabeth Tatum tallied 10. Morgan dished off a game-best eight assists and Dixon notched eight rebounds.
Erskine hit 27-of-62 shots for 43.5 percent but was just 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) from 3-point range.
