DUE WEST, S.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (9-11, 6-7) finished off a six-match road stand with a 3-0 sweep of Erskine (10-17, 4-7) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at the Galloway Center and Belk Arena.
The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-10 and bounced back to beat the Flying Fleet after suffering a setback the night before.
Barton was led by the duo of junior outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) and freshman outside hitter Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) with 12 kills each. Elkins leads the team in kills with 292 while sophomore setter Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added 16 assists and seven digs as the Bulldogs limited the Flying Fleet to a -0.033 hitting percentage.
Erskine's Katy Torgerson (Summerville, S.C.) finished with a team-high nine kills but the Flying Fleet lost for the fourth time in the last five tries.
Barton returns home to take on Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas match on Friday at 2:30 p.m., in newly-renovated Wilson Gymnasium while Erskine travels to Franklin Springs, Ga., to take on Emmanuel (Ga.) on Tuesday beginning at 7:00 p.m.
