Barton women’s volleyball falls on the road to Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (7-10, 4-6) suffered a 3-0 loss to Belmont Abbey (12-11, 7-1) Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at the Wheeler Center.

The Crusaders defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-18 and won their third straight contest in the process.

Belmont Abbey was led by Mackenzie Chrapliwy (South Bend, Ind.) with nine kills and 13 digs while Cassidy Bonito (Pompano Beach, Fla.) added four kills, 29 assists and seven digs as the Crusaders totaled nine team blocks and limited the Bulldogs to a 0.053 hitting percentage.

Barton was led by junior outside hitters Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) and Camryn Frederick (Huntersville, N.C.) with 10 kills each and sophomore setter Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added 27 assists and 17 digs in the losing effort.  Elkins leads the team with 249 kills so far this season.

Barton will look to bounce back on Saturday when the Bulldogs take on rival Mount Olive in a league contest in Mount Olive, N.C., beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey hosts Chowan Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
