FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (3-3) suffered a close setback to Francis Marion (5-1), 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Center.  The Patriots came into the contest ranked No. 10 in the region.

Despite the setback, the Bulldogs were led by junior Marissa Stevenson (Kirk Michael, ISLE OF MAN) and freshman Isabella Caballero (La Paz, BOLIVIA).  The duo won at both singles and doubles.

Stevenson teamed with senior Daria Avram (Buzau, ROMANIA) to win at No. 1 doubles over the Patriots' Denise Hartmann (Langenfeld, GERMANY) and Elisa Lang (Kleinmachnow, GERMANY) by a 6-3 score.  Stevenson rallied in three sets – 3-6, 6-4 and 6-1 – to beat Hartmann at second singles as well and remains unbeaten on the year (4-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action).

Caballero teamed with sophomore Claudia Capellades (Barcelona, SPAIN) to beat Francis Marion's Magan Head (Florence, S.C.) and Lesshika Vala (Middelburg, SOUTH AFRICA) at third doubles by a 6-2 score.  Caballero also won at No. 5 singles.

The Barton women's tennis team returns to the court on Sunday to take on Bluefield State beginning at 11:00 a.m., at home while Francis Marion hosts USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference contest on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
