WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (9-5-1, 7-3) celebrated Senior Day in style with a come-from-behind, 2-1 win over Emmanuel (Georgia) (8-6, 5-5) Saturday afternoon in a key Conference Carolinas contest at the Electric Supply Company Field.
Barton sophomore midfielder Caitlynn Bragg (Hubert, N.C.) broke a one-all tie with the match-winner in the 76th minute with a goal in the box after the defense overplayed the ball. Junior forward Syaani Harris (Ashland, Va.) was credited with the assist as the Bulldogs kept themselves in great position to host a league tournament quarterfinal match.
Barton senior defender Rebecca Fraser (Chesapeake, Va.) tied the score at one-all at the 17:35 mark of the first half after finishing off a ball that was deflected off the post courtesy of sophomore midfielder Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.). Both Bragg and Fraser scored their first goals of the season.
Emmanuel's Lochlain Corliss (Cumming, Ga.) opened the scoring in the 12th minute after taking advantage of a defensive misplay with her shot falling in after hitting the right post. In goal, both Barton sophomore Kristin Davis (Willow Springs, N.C.) and Emmanuel's Hannah Welch (Athens, Ga.) made six saves with Davis coming out with the victory. Barton held an 18-13 advantage in shots taken in winning its second straight contest.
Barton next travels to Banner Elk, N.C., to take on Lees-McRae on Saturday, November 2, beginning at 1:30 p.m., in the Conference Carolinas regular season finale while Emmanuel hosts Georgia Gwinnett on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
