Barton women’s soccer takes care of Coker, 3-0, in 2019 season opener

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (1-0) opened the 2019 campaign with a 3-0 shutout victory over Coker (0-1) Saturday afternoon at the Electric Supply Company Field.

Barton junior forward Syaani Harris (Ashland, Va.) tallied a goal and an assist while junior forward Olivia Bronson (Gaithersburg, Md.) scored the match-winner just 10:18 into the contest to lead the Bulldogs to the victory. 

Harris assisted on Bronson's goal which found the back of the net in the bottom left corner while the Bulldogs held a dominant edge in shots by a 28-4 margin to claim the shutout victory.  The win was also the first for new Bulldogs mentor Andy McNab.

In goal, freshman Rachel Cox (Wilson, N.C.) picked up the shutout victory after tallying a save while Coker's goalkeeper, Sarah Swaim (Waynesville, N.C.), suffered the loss despite stopping 12 shots.  Barton senior midfielder Katie Christiansen (Niantic, Conn.) rounded out the scoring with a penalty kick in the 74th minute.

Barton hosts UNC Pembroke on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex while Coker takes on Lander on Wednesday in Greenwood, S.C., beginning at 5:00 p.m.
