FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (8-4, 5-2) pushed its winning streak to three games with a 17-5 victory over winless Emmanuel (Ga.) (0-8, 0-6) Saturday afternoon at the Stephens Athletic Complex.
The Bulldogs – who have outscored their opponents by a 49-15 margin over the last three games – were led by the duo of sophomore attackers Angelina Scarpa (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Kayli Ashenfelter (Stewartstown, Pa.).
Both players – Scarpa (seven goals, two assists) and Ashenfelter (six goals, three assists) – totaled nine points as the Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-3 halftime advantage and never looked back. Ashenfelter and Scarpa also rank first and second on the team in total points at 62 and 61, respectively.
Aleah Marijanich (Dacula, Ga.) scored four of the five goals for the Lions but the performance wasn't nearly enough for the home squad to earn its first win of the year.
The Bulldogs also received a three-goal, two assist performance from junior midfielder Rebecca Fraser (Chesapeake, Va.) and held a 37-13 edge in shots taken while sophomore goalkeeper Katherine Mattena (Salt Lake City, Utah) picked up the win after stopping four shots. Meanwhile, Emmanuel's Tiana Machado (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) suffered the loss in goal despite making 14 saves.
Barton returns home to take on Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas game on Thursday, April 4, at 4:00 p.m., while Emmanuel (Ga.) hosts Southern Wesleyan on Thursday beginning at 4:00 p.m., as well.
