GREENVILLE, S.C. – Barton College's Shanika Peterkin has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced earlier today.
Peterkin, a junior center from Virginia Beach, Va., averaged 16.5 points, 15.0 points and five blocked shots for the week including a 19-point, 14-rebound performance in a 65-54 triumph over Elizabeth City State at home on Saturday. Peterkin also averaged 2.5 assists for the week and hit seven-of-nine free throw attempts.
Peterkin was a 2018-19 All-Conference Carolinas Second-Team honoree and the league defensive player of the year. Peterkin wins the weekly honor for the fourth time in her collegiate career. Currently, Peterkin leads the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (12.5 rpg) and is the school's all-time leader in blocked shots with 254.
Barton (3-1) will open Conference Carolinas play on Saturday, November 23, at 2:00 p.m., when the Bulldogs host Erskine at Wilson Gymnasium.
