FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – For the second time this year, the Emmanuel (Ga.) women's basketball team (11-5, 6-3) rallied from a big halftime deficit to down Barton (14-4, 7-4) by a 76-66 score Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action at the Williamson Arena and Shaw Athletic Center.
The Lions' Hanna Grogan (Gainesville, Ga.) led all scorers with 24 points as the home team was able to overcome a 46-30 halftime deficit on its way to a third straight victory. Lochlain Corliss (Cumming, Ga.) added 17 points for the Lions, who went on a 25-2 run over the final two periods to take control. Breanna Locke (Flowery Branch, Ga.) hit the game-winning three-pointer for Emmanuel.
Barton senior forward Kianna Wynn (Knightdale, N.C.) led the visitors with 18 points but the Bulldogs saw their four-game winning streak come to an end. Wynn leads the team in scoring this year at 23.6 points per game and her 1,844 career points rank third all-time in school history.
Senior guard Carmen Richardson (Rocky Mount, N.C.) added 14 points off the bench for the Bulldogs, who held a 40-29 advantage on the boards despite the loss. Emmanuel, however, hit eight-of-12 three-pointers in the contest. In the first game between the two schools back in December, the Lions were able to rally from a 43-24 halftime deficit to take the win.
Barton remains on the road to face Converse in a Conference Carolinas game on Monday beginning at 5:30 p.m., in Spartanburg, S.C., while Emmanuel hosts North Greenville on Monday at 5:30 p.m., as well.
