Barton men’s volleyball upends Belmont Abbey, 3-1, to make it 13 straight victories

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (19-3, 13-1) continued its torrid place with its 13th consecutive win, 3-1 over Belmont Abbey (11-10, 6-6) Thursday night in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs won by scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-17 and improved to 19-1 in their last 20 matches and remained in sole possession of first place in the league regular season standings.

Barton was led by junior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) with 15 kills while senior outside hitter Vasilis Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) and freshman outside hitter Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) added 12 kills each as the Bulldogs hit .432 for the match in sweeping the season series from the Crusaders.

Barton junior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) totaled 39 assists and eight digs as the Bulldogs were able to rally from a set down for the win.  Angelos Mandilaris – who hit .542 for the match – leads the team in kills with 343 this year.

Belmont Abbey's Liam Maxwell (Manahwakin, N.J.) finished with a team-high 14 kills but the Crusaders were hurt by 19 service errors.

Barton has a quick turnaround and will face Queens (N.C.) in a non-conference regional contest at Wilson Gymnasium Friday at 7:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey takes on Mount Olive on the road on Friday night in Mount Olive, N.C., beginning at 6:00 p.m.  The Bulldogs are ranked No. 2 in the Off the Block Division II Coaches Poll.
