Barton men’s volleyball pushes winning streak to 12 matches, 3-1 over Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (18-3, 12-1) made it 12 victories in a row with a 3-1 road triumph over Mount Olive (9-13, 8-5) Tuesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at Kornegay Arena.

The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-18, 24-26, 25-22 and 25-19 and improved to 18-1 in their last 19 matches.  Barton also remained in sole possession of first place in the league standings, one game ahead of King (Tenn.).

Barton junior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) – the current league player of the week – led the way with 22 kills and a .465 hitting percentage.  Mandilaris also has a team-high 328 kills on the season and became the second player in school history with 1,000 kills for his collegiate career. 

Bulldogs' senior outside hitter Vasilis Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) – the programs' all-time leader in kills with 1,086 – added 17 kills against the Trojans while junior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO RICO) tallied 51 assists and nine digs in the victory.  The Bulldogs hit .365 for the contest compared to the Trojans (.181).

Mount Olive was led by Tobi Azeez (Melbourne, AUSTRALIA) with a team-high 18 kills in addition to six service aces and four digs but the Bulldogs swept the season series from the Trojans.

Barton has a quick turnaround and will host Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas match on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., at Wilson Gymnasium while Mount Olive hosts Belmont Abbey Friday evening beginning at 6:00 p.m.
