Barton men’s volleyball sweeps home league match from King, 3-0

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (8-3, 4-1) took over sole possession of second place in the Conference Carolinas standings with a 3-0 sweep of King (Tenn.) (6-5, 4-2) Friday evening at Wilson Gymnasium.  The Bulldogs, winners of two straight contests, prevailed by scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-17. 

Barton junior right side hitter Angelos Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) was one of three Bulldogs to cross the double-digit mark in kills, finishing with a match-high 13 kills while senior outside hitter Vasilis Mandilaris (Chalkida, GREECE) added 11 kills as the Bulldogs hit .393 for the match in the victory.  Vasilis Mandilaris also crossed the 1,000-kill mark for his career during the contest (he now has 1,009 kills currently).

King, which saw its three-match winning streak come to an end, was led by Joshua Kim (Garden Grove, Calif.) with six kills but the Tornado hit just .171 for the contest. 

Barton junior setter Oscar Fiorentino (Bayamon, PUERTO), the league's leader in assists, had 38 on the night in addition to four kills.

Barton returns to the court on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Lees-McRae in a league match beginning at 2:00 p.m.  King, meanwhile, faces Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C., on Saturday at Noon.
