Barton men’s tennis stellar at the 2019 Methodist Fall Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team picked up several impressive victories this past weekend at the 2019 Methodist Fall Invitational at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs picked up two victories in Doubles Flight:  junior Oscar Marmestedt (Akersberga, SWEDEN) and sophomore James Kelly (Mazabuka, ZAMBIA) at No. 2 and freshman Alfredo Huamani (Lima, PERU) and junior Alessandro Gerbino (Borlange, SWEDEN) at No. 3.

Huamani and Gerbino defeated Methodist's Tyler Kane (Norcross, Ga.) and Bradon Ly (Lilburn, Ga.) by a score of 8-6 while Marmestedt and Kelly downed a pair of teammates – junior Diego Agudelo (Bogata, COLOMBIA) and freshman Samuel Pettersson (Mariefred, SWEDEN) – in its doubles final, 8-6 as well.

In singles competition, Barton senior Rory Gaydon (Darlington, ENGLAND) beat Marmestedt, 8-4, at Second Flight and Kelly won over Methodist's Jack Middleton (London, ENGLAND) in the Third Flight by a score of 8-6. 

Gerbino added to his doubles win with a triumph at Flight No. 4 with a victory against Gregory Normand (Lasne-Chapelle-Saint-Lambert, BELGIUM), 8-3, and junior Hugh Ryder (Dartmouth, ENGLAND) squeezed by Pettersson, 8-7 (4), in the Fifth Flight.  Finally, Barton freshman Frederick Stone (Saint Ives, ENGLAND) captured the Sixth Singles Flight over Ly, 8-2.

Barton will be in action against next Sunday, October 13, at the North Carolina Wesleyan Invitational in Rocky Mount, N.C.
