MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton College men's lacrosse team (5-9, 3-2) saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 17-9 loss to No. 13 Mount Olive (10-2, 4-1) in Conference Carolinas action Wednesday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Senior Athletic Complex.
Mount Olive's Nathan Bradley (Swansboro, N.C.) scored a game-high five goals while Connor Watson (Langley, British Columbia, CANADA) totaled six points – four goals and two assists – including the contest-winner as the Trojans rallied from a 3-0 deficit after one period of play to take the victory.
Three players for the Bulldogs – freshmen midfielders Zachary Hodge (Murrieta, Calif.) and Hunter Huxoll (Dunkirk, Md.) and sophomore attacker Jake Copio (Smyrna, Del.) – scored twice in the losing effort. Copio leads the team with 55 total points.
Mount Olive held advantages in both shots taken (52-29) and ground balls (31-9) while goalkeeper Andrew Avarello (Clarence, N.Y.) made 12 saves in earning the victory. For Barton, sophomore goalkeeper Matt Stocks (Endicott, N.Y.) suffered the setback despite stopping 15 shots while freshman attacker Mason Chaney (Dunkirk, Md.) scored his team-leading 44th goal of the year.
Barton returns to the field on Sunday, April 14, to take on No. 2 Limestone in Gaffney, S.C., in a Conference Carolinas game beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Mount Olive travels to Franklin Springs, Ga., to face Emmanuel (Ga.) in a league contest Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
